SeaRUG: Efficient Revit Content Management with CTC Software

April 21 at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM UTC-6

Something we hear all the time is some variation of “I don’t have the time to do it right.”

We don’t want to just “get it done,” but we don’t always have time to fully implement a fix for a discovered issue. Families don’t schedule correctly, so we fix the single instance in a project to get on with things. Users don’t find the right piece of content, so they shoe-horn in something they found on the web.

This is simply a way to guarantee that other aspects of our BIM break along the way.

So, how do we, as advanced Revit users, do things correctly when we all have other pressures and jobs to do?

CTC Software has solutions dedicated for BIM Managers to efficiently correct their content, consistently, and with minimal effort. Additionally, there are other tools that help those same BIM Managers distribute that same content quickly. So, in the future, designers in the company can find the right pieces and use them in their developing BIM.

Don’t miss out on how you can rapidly repair anything in your family library, decide on a standard and implement it, and focus on the rest of the work a BIM manager has to do.

And, who knows? Perhaps, some of those other tedious tasks will become far less prevalent when the content used to assemble your firm’s BIMs is all consistent and clean.

Learning Objectives:

  • Rapidly repair anything in your family library
  • How to keep the content used to assemble your firm’s BIMs consistent and clean

Introduction to Schedule Parameter Resolver from the BIM Manager Suite

May 6 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

Working with Schedules in Revit can turbocharge your BIM environment. However, the schedules can also be frustrating when more than one parameter with the same name exists for a category. The game of parameter roulette destroys schedule headers, groupings and column unit overrides. Instead of playing ‘Guess-Your-Best’, the Schedule Parameter Resolver can save frustration by swapping schedule columns directly from your shared parameter file. Even more important, you can implement these changes to multiple schedules at the same time. Attend this webinar to see the Schedule Parameter Resolver work live in the Revit project environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Introduction to the Schedule Parameter Resolver User Interface and Workflow
  • Define Source of Parameters for Use in Swapping
  • Plan Efficient Swapping of Scheduled Parameters
  • Apply Parameter Swap Selections to Multiple Schedules

ATG Webinar: Civil 3D Survey Templates Made Easy

June 24 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

Civil 3D can process many parts of a Survey by linking up the descriptions from a PNEZD file to various aspects of a Civil 3D Template (dwt) and Profile. These settings can assign Points Styles, Label Styles and a Layer to all imported Points through the Description Key Set. Further processing of lines is handled by the Figure Prefix Database and the Linework Code Set. Managing most of these template settings, however, is a dull and tedious process with the tools available inside Civil 3D.

By using the CIM Manager Suite from CTC Software to pass information between Civil 3D and easy-to-use spreadsheets, CAD Managers everywhere can save time and frustration in updating or creating their Survey Templates.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the necessary components of a Survey Template for automated Point and Linework Processing
  • Learn how to use the CIM Manager Suite to create a Survey Template using mostly spreadsheets
  • Save time in managing Layers, Description Key Sets, and Figure Prefix Databases using the CIM Manager Suite

ATG Webinar: Dynamic Domination with Instance-Based Doors

August 10 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

Have you created a Revit model from a point cloud? If so, you may find some existing buildings have many different sizes of doors, especially old buildings that have been around for years. Revit includes built-in parameters for doors which are type-based. This means you must create a new door type for every single size of door. What if you could simply change the size via an instance parameter, and only have one door type? Join Matt Linn from ATG as he explores a workflow to create an instance-based door, with an associated door tag to control the dimension. CTC Tool Shared Parameter Manager will be highlighted to assist in producing the necessary shared parameters.

Dynamic Intersection Design with CTC Corridor Mapper

August 11 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

Intersection design with corridors in Civil 3D can prove challenging at times. With all the complex targeting required, keeping it straight is difficult. However, with Corridor Mapper from the CIM Project Suite we can link subassemblies to layers, styles, object names and even other subassemblies. When target objects are created on those layers, styles, etc. they are automatically assigned to the corridor. This saves tons of time and allows the designer to create a “dynamic target mapping” that automatically adds and subtracts targets as designs evolve.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn to create corridors that better respond to design changes
  • Quickly model intersections through a dynamic target mapping
  • Link subassemblies to layers, styles, objects names and other subassemblies for quick target assignment
  • Save time by avoiding the time-consuming native target mapping interface

Whether it’s pushing data in for scheduling or massaging data pulled from the models and pushed back in to make changes, this session on Spreadsheet Link will show how it’s done.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to manipulate data in Spreadsheet Link and apply back to the model
  • Understand how to format data in Excel and push back to Revit using Spreadsheet Link
  • How to create a repeatable workflow that can be used by other projects

Introduction to Family Preview Manager from BIM Manager Suite

September 22 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

The family preview that is visible from windows and while loading family content is as important as the family name for identifying what is about to be loaded. Sadly, Revit previews are quite tedious to configure. Each family must individually be touched to ensure a view is configured and established as the preview so when the family is edited, that view is still correct and ready for the updating of the family preview on save. This is something that is almost never consistently done on corporate libraries.

Learning Objectives:

  • Establish preview generation rules for repeatable preview generation
  • Run test preview generation on active family(ies)
  • Implement Family Preview Generation on all content in library
  • Learn how to obtain the BIM Manager Suite

Introduction to Length Calculator from the BIM Project Suite

October 13 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

Revit will not report total values when multiple items are selected. In duct work, piping, conduit and cable tray, we often want to know the total run length of a selected collection of MEP components. What we typically have to do is create a schedule, establish some kind of filter and set totals for this kind of information. This certainly is not the most convenient when all we want is a run length quickly.
Enter the Length Calculator from the BIM Project Suite. This webinar will demonstrate live how Duct, Pipe, Conduit and Cable tray lengths can be quickly calculated with no extra steps and for free.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the traditional methods for calculating length in MEP
  • Identify simple selections for runs of MEP components
  • Define the properties that are used in the length calculation totals
  • Learn how to obtain this BIM Project Suite tool for free
