Introduction to Project Activity Logger from the BIM Data Suite

June 23 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM UTC-6

As project progress, they often begin to respond more slowly. Sluggish opening time and inefficient save times can lead to frustration in the project environment. Why does this happen? When does it occur in the project lifecycle? How do I know I need to respond, repairing models before they begin crashing? This webinar will demonstrate a tool that provides you all of the information you need to ensure your projects are running smoothly, providing early indications of issues that can often be efficiently repaired before causing project delays.

Learning Objectives:

  • Configuring Project Activity Logger
  • Introduction to 'Interface'
  • Obtaining Reports from the Logs
  • How to Obtain the Suite

New grading workflows for residential development projects

June 24 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM UTC-6

Grading of residential developments can be complicated. Corridors handle the road grading, but when it comes to lots and common areas, Civil 3D falls short. This is where Auto Grader comes into play. By defining “parent” feature lines, such as the right-of-way, Auto Grader will automatically create side and back of lot feature lines based on 3D parameters defined by the user. The same can be done for house pads.

Learning Objectives:

  • Automate lot grading based on design parameter inputs
  • Update lot gradings as road gradings change, automatically
  • Auto-insert house pads based on 3D offsets from the road
  • Automate surface creation, as break lines are managed with Auto Grader

Automated pond grading with Auto Grader

July 15 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM UTC-6

Pond grading in Civil 3D typically requires many offsets of feature lines. These relationships between top of pond, benches and slopes are often pre-defined. With Auto Grader from the CIM Project Suite, users can define one pond baseline, then using slope and offset parameters defined in Auto Grader, create all subsequent feature lines automatically. If the pond baseline feature line changes, simply refresh the grading family in Auto Grader and all dependent feature lines will update.

Learning Objectives:

  • Grade ponds in a fraction of the time through rules-based feature line automation
  • Save pond design templates for future use in other drawings and projects
  • Don't worry about managing surface breaklines, since Auto Grader handles it
  • Focus more on design and less on tedious feature line editing

Plumbing Code Calculations with Spreadsheet Link and Schedule XL

August 5 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM UTC-6

Revit® has trouble with complex calculations and the ability to run cross-category math. This can be frustrating when design calculations need to be run. In the case of plumbing code calculations, we need to take the occupancy of a defined area (floor, smoke compartment, etc…) and use these totals to derive the number of different plumbing fixtures that are required by code to be designed into these areas. Many firms run these calculations manually, but this can be done far more efficiently. This webinar will demonstrate how a re-usable workflow can generate occupancy, calculate plumbing fixture counts and generate graphics for use in Revit to present this information in a live model.

Learning Objectives:

  • Establishing a repeatable workflow
  • Generating reusable Excel® templates
  • Leveraging Excel formulas to drive calculations and graphics
  • Importing Excel graphics into Revit sheets

Instead of manually tracking issues and manually fixing common problems, CTC proposes that your team leverage tools to help automate the model maintenance cycle. In Part 2 of this mini-series we will begin to explore a couple tools that will assist in managing imported files and model cleanup.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review links and imports within the models
  • Purge out unwanted files
  • Cleaning up views and sheets
  • Removing rogue templates and filters

Introduction to the MEPPP Beta (Metric)

November 10 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

Revit® is a powerful MEP modeling tool, but requires extensive up-front work by savvy users to create useful project templates and content libraries. A fully developed starter project and library can require thousands of hours to create. The MEP Productivity Pack (MEPPP) from CTC Software™ allows firms to skip this process entirely by providing a set of standards implemented throughout a starter project, a sample project and a vast amount of family content based on actual manufacturer data. The MEPPP has been vetted by multiple industry design professionals. Not only is the MEPPP an all-in-one, get-started-now package for firms new to Revit, but for established Revit users it provides advanced features created by Revit experts that are found in no other industry product.

This webinar will focus primarily on the metric conversion efforts in the MEPPP related to the following: code review and integration, unit conversion process, pipe & duct sizes & types implementation, tag and schedule unit corrections, model group corrections, performance table enhancements with proper data, and family functionality for dual units.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand commonalities and differences between US (imperial) & Canadian (metric) design
  • Learn streamlined methods for converting Imperial unit models to metric
  • Outline families that can be used in both imperial and metric unit workflows
  • Discuss current and future development efforts in Canada

HIVE User Management with Excel and Active Directory Sync

December 1 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM UTC-6

Managing many users and groups in HIVE one by one can be inefficient when you have more than 10 users. This webinar will demonstrate exactly how users can be very efficiently added, updated and just generally managed. This will allow you to far more easily assign groups, update offices and departments for users via the Excel workflow. Additionally, the user creation and disabling can be entirely synchronized with your internal Active Directory, greatly minimizing your user and group management tasks. Join us live in this webinar to get all user management questions answered.

Learning Objectives:

  • Essential User and group management strategies
  • How to obtain an export of all users
  • How to push changes to users and groups into HIVE
  • Associating Active Directory to your HIVE account
